MACERATED DEFINITION:

When the skin begins to soften in response to prolonged exposure to moisture/fluids. This makes it easier for the skin to break down

EXAMPLE:

Wrinkling & whiteness of fingers after having been in water for some time

Having a band-aid on & after taking the bandaid off it often appears macerated.

An incontinent patient who in bedridden will often develop macerated areas on coccyx area which increases the likelihood to develop a pressure ulcer
