PATHOGNOMONIC DEFINITION:

  1. A characteristic (physical exam finding, lab findings, symptoms, sign) that is very particular to a disease

EXAMPLES:

  1. A positive psoas sign is pathognomonic of appendicitis
  2. A greenish-yellow halo vision change is pathognomonic of digoxin toxicity
